A full residential renovation of a classic four-bedroom New England Farmhouse house built in the mid 1800’s. The ambition of this renovation was to modernize a residence that has been in a family for generations. The most sustainable and authentic ‘solution’ was to restore as many original elements as possible: the original wide plank floor boards, mahogany banister, solid old growth interior doors, cast bronze door hardware and hinges and cast iron grilles intrinsic to the character of the house were preserved and accentuated. The color palette composed of subtle hues of moss, clay, stone, sand, sea and sky; this in combination with striped down lightly stained original wide plank floors creates a light and open effect. Small paned glass doors function as room dividers creating a sense of reflection and spaciousness.
